Converting faith

Referring to the video in the link above, Cat Steven, one of the greatest singer and song writer in the 70's converted to Islam.

We have heard from the news that Islam is a religion of destruction and a chaos. Muslims kill people from other faith, execute barbaric laws (amputation punishment), oppress the women and suicide bombing.

Firstly, we have to understand that in every religion, there are many who are spiritual and uphold high ethical values. However, there are also black sheep. These black sheep does not represent the group.

Ok, why do people convert while each religion claims that they are the ONLY way and solution to their problems?

My humble opinion is COMPATIBILITY.

If you prefer Christ to be your Lord and Savior, choose Christian.
If you fear Karma and sought for Enlightenment, you have Buddhism.
If you believe in the one True God (not Trinity), you have Islam.
If you think there is no god, welcome to the atheist club.

It is about what suits you best. Always remember, there is no compulsion in religion. Compulsion means force (may be economic force, political force or life threatening method) a person to take up one's faith.

In this democratic age, we all have the free choice in religion. It is important that we respect everyone's believe, as long as their religious activity obeys the law of the country.

  1. IMHO compatible would mean you just find something that fits what you already believe and support it. Isn't that a bit.... errrr..... shallow?

  2. http://www.fodian.net/English/Universal%20Door%20Chapter-Lotus%20Sutra.htm

Sutra on the Lotus Flower of the Wondrous Dharma

"The Buddha answered Bodhisattva Infinite Resolve, "If there is a living being in some country who can be liberated by a Buddha, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva appears as a Buddha and teaches him the Dharma. If someone can be liberated by a Pratyeka Buddha, he appears as a Pratyeka Buddha and teaches him the Dharma. If someone can be liberated by a Sound-hearer, he appears as a Sound-hearer and teaches him the Dharma. If someone can be liberated by a Brahma-heaven King, he appears as a Brahma-heaven King and teaches him the Dharma....."

Thus, if someone is to be liberated in a certain way and form, thus deliverance will be sent in that form

  3. If you are able to follow the commandments of life while believing in Buddhism (for example), by converting to some other religion causes you to lose that, what good would that do?

This shows that Buddhism fits you.

Regardless the existence of religion, there are good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. For good people to do evil things, it takes religion.
